Whether it’s the ’24-’25 AHL hockey schedule coming out or the 2025 baseball schedules, learning when the games will be is a notable date on the sports-lovers’ calendar. In the last couple days, 2025 baseball schedules for the Triple-A IronPigs and the Double-A R-Phillies have been released.
Certainly, there’s more work to do. Game times are not published yet. Away schedules will need to be perused for possible road trips. Integration with the Phillies schedule will need to be considered at some point, for possible double-header days. I haven’t even looked at the overlap with April hockey yet.
But, if you’re planning a group outing or planning a vacation, you know which days are home game days. Unfortunately we continue to be stuck with the cumbersome 6-game series. I refuse to believe that you couldn’t keep the same format and split 3 and 3. Durham is coming to Allentown? Why not three at Coca Cola Park and then three at PNC Field in Moosic? New Hampshire is coming to Reading? Why not three in Reading and three in Harrisburg? The schedules are not perfectly even or “fair” anyway, anymore, so I’m not worried about more or fewer games as much as breaking up the opponents. It shouldn’t cost that much to flip in the middle of the week and some weeks will still be all 6 versus one opponent. They should really make this happen. And if they did? It would make it easier for some of the more unique, longer road trips. Iowa Cubs? St Paul Saints? Round Rock Express? Stuff like that.
For me though, this day also begins the process to make a buying decision. As a full-season ticket member in both Allentown and Reading, I need to know the overlap to make sure I can swing both packages without wasting most of the tickets. Next season, the overlap is 24 games. That might sound like a lot, but once you factor in game times and such, it’s not bad at all. The beginning of the season and the end of the season do not overlap whatsoever. The conflict games happen in June and July, which is probably my most desired result.
