The IronPigs are once again stacking wins as the Worcester series chugs along with a Saturday night Steelworkers recognition.
About Last Night
The baseball team battled the cold and rainy weather to fare better than the hockey team. A leadoff double, a sac bunt and a throwing error lead to the walk-off victory in the bottom of the 9th inning. A solid 5.2 innings of scoreless ball from starter Alan Rangel led to one earned run by his replacement, Austin Schulfer, in addition to three of his own earned runs. He did not record an out. Padilla got him out of dodge, and de Geus and Lazar brought it home scoreless to allow the Lehigh Valley walk-off. Crawford had three hits, Kennedy two.
Standings
With the win and a Durham loss, the IronPigs go up 2.0 games in the league standings over Durham and Jacksonville. Nashville is 3.0 games back.
The IronPigs have now won two games in a row, and are 7-3 in their last 10 games.
Being the league-leader on June 22 would not only clinch playoffs for the IronPigs as the first-half champion, but would cement a home playoff series for September regardless of second half performance.
