IronPigs Today: Soggy Win > Dry Loss

Andrew Painter to the rescue as IronPigs win a rain-shortened affair and snap losing steak at three.

About Last Night

Andrew Painter did not disappoint.  He did all the things a top-prospect starting pitcher is supposed to do.  He brought fastballs with some juice.  He threw secondary pitches for strikes.  He attacked the strike zone relentlessly (until he didn’t).  He worked fast.  It was impressive.  We were trying to think of a pitcher at Triple-A who looked that good and that dominant for pitching reasons rather than an incompetent lineup.  Blake Snell was the only name that came up.  The last inning lead to some walks when Painter mostly abandoned the fastball, but he got out of it, and it will be something for him to look at and work on over the next week.  The Pigs won 3-1 when they called the game due to rain after the sixth inning.

Standings

At 24-12 the IronPigs return to first place with a Durham loss.  Jacksonville won, leaving those two teams tied, one game back of the ‘Pigs in the league standings.  Nashville is three games back. We’re looking for first place on 6/22 when the first half ends.
