UPDATED, in advance of Saturday’s game. Thanks to friends who were at the park, for sending through additional information and reviews.
Friday and Saturday we are due to host the “Cosmic Takeover Tour” where the Tri-City Chili Peppers play glow-in-the-dark baseball under black lights! Here’s the information about the event that we have right now, and we’ll update if more details become available.
Here’s an article about how this kind of thing came about.
Here’s some video:
Here’s What’s on Tap Tonight and Tomorrow:
VIP: 4PM early access to the Club Level, Meet the players, gift bag, avoid merch lines, food and drink. Details are sketchy. I do not believe it includes a game ticket and I’m unsure of the seating arrangement in the club level, if at all. It costs $50. Enter 4PM at the West (Club) gates
Block Party: 4:30PM in the East Gate Plaza, Free, Game Ticket Required. Buy merch and go through the black-light inflatable tunnels to test it out. DJ music will be playing. Stadium and concourse are open at 6PM. The block party is very crowded. Advanced: Get there at 4:30PM when it starts or skip the block party and arrive once the concourses are open.
Game Time: 7:30PM the game starts as a regular baseball game, but with “Cosmic Rules.” Between 8:30PM and 9PM they switch over to the full Cosmic game. Be advised, the concessions and concourses will be very crowded during that time. From 9PM to 10PM they play the full glow baseball. At 10PM the game ends and the players are available in the plaza to sign autographs. Advanced: Head to the bathrooms and concessions around 8:20-8:25 before the crowds hit during the changeover.
Tickets: Tickets were sold as General Admission following a lottery. Then there was another lottery and another game was added. Then, seats were assigned by the Cosmic folks. Hospitality areas including the picnic patio were sold by the IronPigs, sometimes as part of packages. Supposedly, the games are sold out; however, there seems to be a glut of tickets on the secondary market. It all seems very shady. Use caution when purchasing tickets online and avoid purchasing through FB comments links and such. Perhaps you can still enter a lottery? A major site like StubHub has some assurances built in–and very well could be in cahoots with the sponsors, as there are many many tickets available and a bunch are the same price as was originally offered.
Last night screen shots of the ticket QR codes worked fine. Be careful about it, though, do not pay for screen shot tickets.
Parking: $12. Remember, cashless.
Cashless: The stadium remains cashless for this event.
Security: Security screening and prohibited items are consistent with normal IronPigs policy.
“Cosmic Rules?” Yeah, some special rules to make things fun and keep things moving.
1st Half: No Bunting, No Mound Visits, Walks result in a fungo toss, Home Team decided by a competition, defense must rotate positions clockwise when the whistle blows.
2nd Half: No bunting, No mound visits, walks result in a fungo toss, Fans can over-rule umpire, Home run derby after every inning–runs count.
Santa is the umpire.
Concessions: There were some name and theme changes, but it’s the normal stuff and the prices seemed the same. Merchandise tents for Cosmic are in the plaza, as well as behind 104 and 118.
Reviews: Talking to many folks who went last night–even those who were skeptical about the event–everyone said it was a very good time and worth going.
See you in the dark,
