IronPigs Today: Pain 6/21/25

It’s been such a fun season, but these pigs are trying to take it away from us.  It’s a shame.

About Last Night

Jacksonville had lost the first game of their doubleheader and we were scoring multiple runs.  Things were going swimmingly.  Crowe navigated a suddenly-capable Red Wings lineup a couple of times, but the pitch count was getting up there and perhaps he was left in too long.  Likewise Padilla.  Without knowing how many pitchers he had available, though, it’s hard for me to put this one on the manager.  Plus, the bats just fell silent following a promising start.  Same old story.

The Picture

Jacksonville split their doubleheader in Syracuse last night as we were losing, bringing us into a tie headed to the last two games of the season atop the International League.  Every other team has been mathematically eliminated.

If we end in a tie, the Shrimp get it on the tiebreaker.  We must win games there is no other way.

Jacksonville must lose a game or two.  There is no other way.

Syracuse used their rehab appearance by Sean Manaea in yesterday’s game one win.  Their pitching is a bit up in the air because of New York.  Godspeed to them.

Transactions

We correctly identified the Wil Crowe move yesterday.  Wilson already had a roster spot from Thursday’s moves he just needed to be activated.  True to prediction, he was in left field last night.  Nick Vespi headed to Reading to give the R-Phils another arm in the Crowe move.

Pitching:

IronPigs:  RHP Andrew Painter (3-2, 4.35)  Painter answered the call last Sunday, on regular rest for the first time in his rehab, came out and avenged a bad game against the Red Sox with a much, much better one.  And, got us a win we really needed.  But we haven’t won again since.  The bats have to do their jobs.  Andy just needs to go out and pitch his game.

Rochester:  RHP Seth Shuman (1-4, 7.35)  Golly those are numbers that just might get our bats going.  But I’m not counting on it. Scouting:  four-pitch mix.  Command and control, not overpowering.

Up Next

A win tonight combined with a Jacksonville loss would put the IronPigs back into control of their destiny tomorrow.  A loss and a Jacksonville win clinches the League for the Jumbo Shrimp and tomorrow is irrelevant.

God willin and the crick don’t rise, see you tomorrow,
