IronPigs Today: “Roll Out The Barrel” 8/9/25

Take that, MusikFest.  We can do Polka anywhere.  Even at IronPigs.  It’s not just for you.  We’ll even force Service Electric to televise it!

About Last Night

RHP Mitch Neunborn was your secret pitcher to start last night’s game.  Perhaps he was here all along and the roster move didn’t get made until yesterday.  He had an interesting strategy to deal with the top of the Yankees-affiliated lineup:  Just walk them.  Work your way to the softer under-belly of the Triple-A lineup and get some outs there.  The Justin Crawford lead-off home run helped provide a little early run support.  Later, after Castro got hit by a pitch and wasn’t too pleased about it (he didn’t immediately drop his bat..) Payton Henry cranked a three-run jack to left and the IronPigs had things in hand.  The relievers took care of business, although the routine of committing errors behind Brett de Geus, not walking Jorbit, and then asking Brett to go out there for another inning, is not a recipe for success.  But by the seventh it was a 9-3 lead and we do need the innings.  It all worked out.

Another note from last night:  DH Cal Stevenson left the game early without explanation.

Roster Moves
– RHP Mitch Neunborn (#31) transferred from Reading
– RHP Gabe Mosser placed on the Development List
– C Josh Breaux reinstated from the 7-day IL
– OF Gabriel Rincones Jr. placed on the 7-day IL with a L Ankle Sprain
Rincones had twisted his ankle Thursday, running the bases, but stayed in the game.
1B Keaton Anthony hasn’t been listed for a particular injury, but is said that he could be back soon.

Rehab Watch et al

Justin Crawford Watch:  If they think he could be part of the post-season roster they need to give him some runway towards that end, with some MLB time.  It’s looking more and more that they don’t think that, and they want to ensure regular playing time when he does get to the next level (note: that part is the right way to do it).  So, maybe we have to suspend the watch here.

Alec Bohm: Official word is that he will begin a rehab on Sunday with the IronPigs.  Next week will he be with the Pigs in Buffalo or at home in Reading?  We’ll see.

Aaron Nola:  Confirmed–for now–his next start will be on Tuesday.  They have said IronPigs, so that means a trip to Buffalo.  If they call him up after that, he could fly out of Buffalo.  Or, he could have his rehab transferred to Reading and stay in Southeastern Pennsylvania if they change their minds.

David Robertson:  Appears to be on his way to Texas to join the Phillies on the road.  He’s set to be activated on Sunday.  I’m expecting Rangel to return to the IronPigs which should help with our rotation.

Game Day!

I’m not sure if having Polka Night during the end of MusikFest is an homage, or thumb to the nose.  But here we are.

As far as rolling out the barrel, they need to stop running out of beer around the stadium.  I’m starting to keep track.  I know it’s been big crowds but the combination of faulty tap systems and poor beer supply reflects poorly on beverage and bar management departments as well as whomever they have servicing this stuff, who should make IronPigs their top priority as the largest bar in the Lehigh Valley (although, during MusikFest, there may be some competition).

Game Time: 6:35PM

Gates:  Main/CenterField: 5:15PM;  Club/Suites: 5:00PM

Tickets:  Tight.  Once again the gorgeous weather is bringing folks out.  Even the secondary market is lacking supply.  If you’re a season ticket member and not going tonight, you might make some nice money selling off your tickets.

Promotions:

Weather:  Perfect

Pitching:

IronPigs:  RHP Adonis Medina (0-2, 5.14) with IronPigs, 6G/3GS.

RailRiders:  RHP Kenta Maeda (3-4, 5.97) with Iowa Cubs.  Yankees signed as a minor league free agent after getting released by the Cubs earlier this week.  This is his system debut.  The 37-yo native of Japan is a veteran of 226 MLB games with the Dodgers, Twins and Tigers.

See you at the park,
