IronPigs Today: Comeback Kids 8/22/25

They did it again.  Those plucky piggies will not go quietly on their home diamond.  Another walk-off and the series is going swimmingly.

About Last Night

Adonis Medina couldn’t find the strike zone easily, as the game began.  A guy behind me remarked that it’s the first time he ever heard sarcastic clapping for a strike twice in one inning.  Still, there were no hits.  But he settled in–he had to coming off a bullpen game Wednesday night–and a hit or two came and two runs but only one earned.

And once again the IronPigs Today staff headed home.  This time in the eighth.  But not Jack!  Walk-off photos rule!

Rojas added a homer, and a couple of doubles later the game was tied.  Durham scored in the top of the 10th to crank their win probability to 72.5%, but alas it was not to be for the Bulls from down south.  A bunt and a fly tied it again before a single and a steal and a walk and another single walked it off.  Otto Kemp with the flowers.  And the showers.

Numbers
  • Crawford is in a bit of a mini-slump.  I like his lefty bat behind Rojas, but the IronPigs are 50-31 when Crawford leads off, and 9-9 when he bats second.
  • The IronPigs are 6-12 with Luis Verdugo in the lineup.  He added a nice bunt last night during the rally, though!
  • Our guy Lantigua has a 53-game errorless streak right now; Rincones is second with 36.
  • The IronPigs have four grand slams this season, but only one at home (Henry 7/2).
  • The IronPigs have used 62 players this season.
  • Breaux leads all catchers with Caught Stealing Percentage, at 27.3% over a small sample.  Stubbs is second at 22.6%.  Henry is at 12.3%
  • This season, the IronPigs have hit 53 Home Runs at home–66 on the road!
  • Justin Crawford leads the team in multi-hit games, with 39.  Somehow, Donovan Walton is second with 23 and he just got here!
  • Rodolfo Castro leads the team in multi-RBI games
  • The IronPigs are 52% on ABS Challenges.  Their opponents in the same games are 51%
  • After last night, the IronPigs have 8 walk-off wins this season–no player has more than one!
  • The IronPigs are 2-1 while wearing Coquis jerseys
  • The IronPigs are 11-10 on Fridays–6-3 at home.
Love celebration photos man.

Bull Durham

Top prospect, SS Carson Williams, who hit a home run Wednesday night, was called up to Tampa.  The former 1st-round pick will make his MLB debut, likely tonight.

Game Day!

Game Time: 7:05PM

Gates: Main/Center Field: 5:45PM; Club/Suites: 5:30PM

Tickets:  Tight.  Looks like just GA right now online.  There are a bunch on the secondary market, though.

Promotions:

  • Faith Night
  • Fireworks

Weather:  78° and sunny at game time.  Not as chilly tonight for fireworks.

Pitching:

IronPigs: RHP Andrew Painter (4-5, 5.31)

What To Watch:  Is he mixing his pitches in a way that makes sense?  Is he able to command the fastball in a way that doesn’t grab too much of the strike zone?  Is he able to pitch out of the stretch, and/or with guys on base?  Is he walking guys?

Bulls:  RHP Brian Van Belle (3-0, 2.04 with Durham; 9-5, 3.47 in AAA in 2025). Durham is Brian’s third Triple-A team of the season, having pitched with Worcester and Louisville as well this year.  In fact, he pitched here at Coca Cola Park on May 9, to a no-decision, with the Red Sox affiliate.

More This Weekend

Tomorrow’s game is another busy one, with tickets hard to find.  Sunday looks a little easier.  Slight chance of showers on Sunday.

See you at the park,

@Kram208
