Happy Hour, Festers, and a Big Ball. C’mon out to the park tonight it should be a good one! Oh, and just a guy named Andrew Painter on the mound. Take a look for yourself, does he look ready? Maybe tonight is the night where he does.

About Last Night
We’ve reached that point in the season where the thought of ballpark food is kind of off-putting. So, my driver and I stopped at our favorite bar on the way to the park to get a bite to eat and some beverages. Everything was going swimmingly until starting pitcher Gabe Mosser gave up five runs in three innings to start the game. All of a sudden my driver is asking for drinks from the bar. “This could be a long night,” I thought.
And it kind of was, coming in at 3:03 by the end of things. But there were four dingers (Crawford to lead off the game, Lantigua, Rincones and Mercado) and the left fielder got thrown out of the game for lecturing the home plate umpire. We got some nice innings from the relief crew, Padilla with two innings as well as mostly clean innings from Sims, Zuniga, and Cusick. The other Mercado had trouble finding the strike zone later, but by then things were mostly decided.
Transactions and Roster
Prior to the game, the Rangel promotion to Philadelphia was officially announced, along with the return of RHP Adonis Medina who had been sent to Reading for a couple days. We’ll see what happens as the week rolls on, but I’ve currently got Medina penciled in for a spot-start on Saturday.

Weather: 86° and sunny, with a light breeze, at game time.
Pitching:
IronPigs: RHP Andrew Painter (3-3, 5.01). What To Watch: Painter’s four-seam fastball has been kind of flat, which as allowed some Triple-A hitters to tee off a bit. The location hasn’t been perfect, either. He is adding a sinker fastball, watch for that. Watch for the pitch mix both early on, as well as when we get to the second or third time through the order. Is he attacking hitters like an MLB pitcher would? Or, does he seems to be working on things and not attacking.
Tides: LHP Cade Povich (0-1, 4.70 in 2 starts 2025; 2024 AAA: 6-1, 3.48). Scouting Report: Third-round pick by the Twins, out of Nebraska in 2021. On rehab assignement. Came to the Orioles as part of a package for RHP Jorge Lopez in 2022. Made his MLB debut in June, 2024. He’ll miss bats with his four-seam fastball, but will also miss the strike zone with it and yield walks. His curve, slider and change are all average pitches with the change perhaps as the best of the offerings.

Looking Ahead
Home Pigs games this weekend with the weather looking pretty good, if a bit steamy. We should be able to avoid the storms on Sunday by getting the game out of the way early. Reading is also home this weekend versus the Rumble Mets. Their game is later on Sunday and perhaps more in danger of weather.
Both teams head for New England next week with the ‘Pigs in Worcester and the Fightins in Hartford as we approach the trade deadline. Yes, a road trip is possible. No, I’m probably not going to do it.
See you at the park,
