About Last Night (sorry of the format doesn’t post properly)
Today
Last game at Coca Cola Park today as the IronPigs and Syracuse Mets finish their long 150-game schedule. It’s a 1:05PM start and for once in recent years, it doesn’t look like it’s going to rain. Club gates will open at a crisp, early 11:30AM while all the main gates will open at 11:45AM. If they have any of those nice wall calendars left, we’d imagine they will give them out. And of course, post-game the kiddos will run the bases.
Some players you won’t likely see: SS Aidan Miller is getting a break in advance of the Arizona Fall League. OF Johan Rojas has a sore quad, and will want to be healthy in case he’s needed for the Phillies playoff roster. OF Brewer Hicklen was outrighted to the IronPigs the other day, but we’re not sure he will have a chance to report. Same for INF Rafael Lantigua who was optioned but had to travel from LA/Arizona.
Watch for last-game silliness today, like all the players using the same bat or some such. Sometimes crazy things happen the last game when it doesn’t matter for either team. The pitching match-up looks like a repeat of Tuesday.
Roll Credits
This team has been a bunch of fun to follow and write about every day–every home game day save 3. Yeah, I think we got 72 of these out there. If the team wasn’t good and interesting no one would care and that includes your pretend reporter here. But it doesn’t happen in a vacuum and there’s plenty of help.
Jack Mitroka: As you may have heard, Jack finished the season on the Injured List following an unfortunate game of motorcycle versus wild deer. We wish him fast and painless recovery and the ability to get to the hockey arena in time for Hockey Night In Allentown. He was our credentialed photographer this season for Top Level of the Minors. We thank him for is efforts this season, as always, to provide the columns with some images and some color.
Cheryl Pursell: We have access to Cheryl’s work, and she stepped up to provide some extra support while Jack is on the mend. Cheryl is officially an IronPigs photographer, and they’re lucky to have her images. Her passion for baseball photography is unmatched and it shows in her images. She has our gratitude.
Sam Jellinek and IronPigs Media: We didn’t ask for much this season, but for the most part were provided with the information and resources to produce this column every game day. We thank Sam and his team for their support as well as for their broadcasts.
The Sources: We won’t ‘out’ them here, but there are folks to talk to, folks who message online, folks out in the open and those who are lurking in the shadows. Sometimes it’s ‘top secret’ information, sometimes it’s just talking ball. I appreciate all of you and always enjoy talking about the ‘Pigs in whatever context. If you’re wondering if you are included in this category, you probably are.
In Memoriam: We’re saying goodbye to folks from the IronPigs community more and more these days. Take a moment today to remember some of those people and those close to them.
Feedback:
There was supposed to be a poll here but alas there’s no time for that. If you like, let me know in the comments or via email or social, what you think of the game-day “IronPigs Today” format. Would you prefer feature articles instead? We finally tried podcasts last season but that didn’t work too well–should we try that again?
Signing Off
See you at the park, and at the arena for hockey. One way or another, back at the park in March 2026. We’re not often at non-baseball park events, but who knows you may catch us at the ticket member picnic on Thursday or the brewfest or illuminations or any of those things. @Kram207

Enjoy some Cheryl Pursell images on the way out…

We got sooooo close to the best overall record (Mutts had other ideas, J-Ville did lose)
AHL announced the preseason games: Phantoms go to Chocolate Town Oct 1st, then the usual home games that weekend for SEN to warm up. They might have to dig up Provence aka Zoo Boy for a HSFB game. Thanks for all your work this season, friend!
