Yet another walk-off win for the IronPigs of 2025. One has to wonder when it becomes “old hat” and the players pack up their bats like a professional pool player might wrap up his cue a the end of the evening. No celebration needed; this is just what we do. Or, maybe it never gets old. Throw some water on somebody, will ya?

About Last Night
Another tough outing from young Andy Painter, but it had its moments. His first inning wasn’t sharp as he walked his first two batters, leading to a run. All contact was in the air to the deep part of the outfield. But then things started to settle down for a bit, That’s when the five strikeouts came. He got ambushed for a home run in the 4th and then in the 5th, with two outs, Painter botches a play at first which allows a baserunner. Of course, that guy scores. At that point, five innings, three runs, not terribly efficient, why not call it a night? They should have. He got rocked in the sixth and Seth Johnson had to come in to clean it up–and of course let one more run in for Painter’s line. So it looks real, real ugly. But it’s still in there, and he can spend this offseason working on pitching rather than working on rehab tasks. Calls for him to be traded last night were absurd and irrational.
No huge innings last night but the bats just kept chipping away. Long balls by Kemp, Rincones, and Castro were needed. Kemp with a three-hit night, Rincones, Castro and Henry with two-hit nights. A couple singles and a Mercado ground-out pushed across the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Three walks load the bases in the ninth before the pitcher gets pulled and Henry just takes an outside strike and shoots it into right field for the walk-off.
Relievers with high marks to keep this one manageable: Johnson, Sims, Mercado. 6,003 paid at the park last night.
